Dr. Ahmad Ghahary (Pharm.D) – Founder, Doctor of Pharmacy
Community Apothecary Inc. is a start-up pharmacy company founded by Dr. Ahmad Ghahary. Dr. Ghahary saw a need for a progressive, clinical community pharmacy as early as his first year of undergraduate pharmacy school. Through education, he sought the tools necessary to make this dream a reality. In undergraduate pharmacy school, Dr. Ghahary took advantage of unique opportunities including courses on inter-professional HIV/AIDS, inter-professional Rural Communities, Health Informatics, and Counselling. Following graduation with a Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy (B.Sc. Pharm) with Honors, he continued his studies at the University of British Columbia with a one year Community Pharmacy Residency. In this residency, Dr. Ghahary gained exposure to a variety of community pharmacies and pharmacy organizations in British Columbia through 20 placements. Among them, he was able to work with marginalized populations in East Vancouver and became aware of their need for a higher level of care. With this understanding, Dr. Ahmad Ghahary enrolled at the University of Toronto in the Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) program in order to learn the tools necessary to provide the highest level of evidence- based pharmaceutical care services. Furthermore, he completed 11 hospital Pharmacy rotations in 6 cities and 4 provinces around Eastern Canada. Through his education in Pharmacy, Dr.Ghahary gained the breadth and depth needed to practice at the highest level.
Upon returning to Vancouver, Dr. Ghahary accepted a position with an independent community pharmacy working with marginalized populations, who suffered from infectious diseases, mental health conditions, and many other ailments. On the job, Dr. Ghahary implemented pharmacy services at health facilities, managed work flow in a team, and effectively collaborated with healthcare professionals, managers, and mental health workers. Dr. Ghahary communicated with and educated patients to empower them to achieve their personal health goals.
In June 2013, Dr. Ghahary left his position to pursue the creation of Community Apothecary Inc. With education, experience, and professional networks, Dr. Ghahary believes he is ideally positioned to effectively achieve Community Apothecary Inc.’s mission.
